A collection of art in all its facets, the Civic Museum of Rieti (Museo Civico) is a special jewel of the city that is worth visiting. It is divided into two sections: The Historical Artistic Section (Town Hall – Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II) and the Archaeological one (Via Sant’Agnese).

The Archaeological Section of the Civic Museum is hosted on the ground floor of the Franciscan conventual complex of Santa Lucia. Lots of artifacts dating back to a period ranging from prehistory to the Middle Ages, coming from Rieti and the Sabina area, are only a little part of the archaeological beauties that can be seen in this section.

The Archaeological section is organized in various rooms, such as the Room “Life, death, religion”, where objects of daily and religious use are kept, ranging from the Iron Age to the Etruscan and Hellenistic periods.

The second room, “The Stone Library”, contains epigraphs and inscriptions, while the third one hosts relics and objects, such as capitals, architraves, frames, various architectural elements that allow the visitor to see in his mind the appearance of the ancient city of Rieti.

Three other rooms host a large collection of coins, while the last one, “The Wing of the Sabines” houses relics discovered during the most recent excavations carried out by the Archaeological superintendence of Rieti.

Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 to 13:30

Friday and Saturday from 8:30 to 13:30 and from 15:30 to 18:30
